The International Center of Bethlehem/Dar Al-Kalima

The International Center of Bethlehem/DAK
The International Center of Bethlehem (ICB), Dar Annadwa Addawliyya, is committed to intercultural dialogue and encounters between people of different contexts and diverse backgrounds.

A Truly Ecumenical Institution
The ICB is a Lutheran-based, ecumenically oriented institution serving the whole Palestinian community. The programs of the Center serve the entire community from “the womb to the tomb”, with an emphasis on children, youth and women.

With An Ambitious Mission

Equipping the local community to assume a proactive role in shaping their future is at the heart of the ICB’s mission. Through empowering the local community, developing human resources, cultivating artistic talents, and facilitating intercultural encounters, the ICB actively promotes the building of Palestinian civil society.

Guided By A Unique Philosophy
The philosophy of the ICB is contextual in its approach with a cross-cultural perspective. It is interdisciplinary and dynamic to insure that the services provided are in harmony with society’s needs and changes.

Supported By A Highly Motivated Staff
The staff of the ICB, the majority of whom are women, is highly educated and well qualified. Many of the staff returned to their homeland believing in the mission of the ICB. In 1995, when the ICB was officially inaugurated, it had a staff of 4 persons. Now the ICB is developing into one of the largest private employer in the Bethlehem region.

Dar al-Kalima School offers an alternative to the traditional Palestinian educational system. Communication, commitment to the community, critical thinking, creativity and Christian values lie at the heart of this approach. The school aims at encouraging students to be pro-active participants in the educational process. \

Dar al-Kalima Academy is a unique intercultural institution for higher education. The Academy offers training in music, arts and crafts, media and communication, cultural management, tourism and Christian ministry. The academy is developing strategic partnerships with several local and international colleges, the Scandinavian “volkshighschools” and European academies.
