THE MONASTERY OF ST. MARY

In Tel Wardiat

 On April 23, 1993 the foundation stone is for the Monastery of St. Mary was laid. On September 8^th, 1993 building of the monastery began. In an impressive celebration on August 15, 2000 – the consecration of the Monastery took place by his holiness Patriarch Mar Ignatius Zakka I.  St. Mary's Monastery is located on the main road between al-Hasseke , Tel Tamer and Aleppo and is in Tel Wardiat, 24 km from al-Hasseke and 95 km from al-Qamishly. The Monastery is situated 326 m above sea level and sits on 63 hectares of land. On its eastern side there is agricultural land. To the west is the village of Tel Wardiat. To the north is the main Aleppo--al-Hasseke road, and to the south is an irrigation canal from the Khabbur River.

 

The facilities at the Monastery include:
1-A church with a capacity of 200 people.
2- A conference hall with a capacity of 250 people.
3-A library for Syriac and Arabic manuscripts

4-  A computer Center.

5- A book shop specializing in sellin religious books.
5- A reception hall.
6- Three classrooms.
7- A kitchen and dining hall.
8- Twenty nine (29) double bedrooms, each with its private bathroom.
